Learning about manufacturing first hand with Klarius

Learners from PM Training recently enjoyed a site tour of the largest manufacturer of aftermarket emissions in the UK, as they experienced first-hand a modern growing business.

Klarius, based in Cheadle, employ over 320 people to manufacture and distribute aftermarket emissions equipment products. As a customer-focused business, they continue to complement their experienced workforce through the recruitment of apprentices. 

Three apprentices from PM Training, working towards engineering and business administration apprenticeships, were joined by future apprentices on a Klarius site tour as part of a Personal, Social and Development Programme.

The programme supports and guides the development of work-related skills, attitudes and behaviours to enable learners to progress onto the next stage of their apprenticeship journey.

Hannah Warburton, PSD & Employability Manager at PM Training, said: “These site tours and other employer engagement activities provide our learners with a wealth of experience and insight into local businesses, and in this case how manufacturing works; which ultimately supports our trainees to make more informed career decisions. We are delighted to be working with Klarius to bring these experiences to our learners.”

On the day, they were met by Doug Bentley, Mark Brickhill, CEO, and Darrell Stubbs, who has been working within the industry at Klarius for over 16 years and offered advice and a knowledgeable insight to the day-to-day operations in a manufacturing business.

Expert apprenticeship advice

Darrell Stubbs, Continuous Improvement Leader, says: "The one thing I would say to any new apprentice is to never give up. It's great to think outside the box in the workplace as you'll need to show and develop new skills.”

17-year-old Alisha Sherratt said: "I found the day really useful, I have a passion for Motocross so I want to get into engineering. It was good to actually walk around the whole site and see people working, you don't really know what happens in the day of an engineer or manufacturer."
