THE STORY BEHIND THE PRODUCTION

This production is very special to us, as it's the very first Artworks commission piece made in 2005. The swans are a creation of 5 life-size steel swans, each with a wingspan of 6 feet. Used as part of an introduction to engineering, a number of apprentices were involved in the making of the sculpture.

MAKING THE SWANS

The Swans are a formation of metalwork and nature. Situated above the lake in the Trentham Estate they were formed using sheets of metal that were galvanized and moulded to the shapes of the swans. The bodies of The Swans are packed out with soil and moss to give them a very real appearance.
