Alex Worman has discovered a career with a future, thanks to his apprenticeship at PM Training and is setting his sights on being a Staffordshire University graduate.

alex-worman-edited-webThe 23-year-old from Madeley, remembers struggling at sixth form, because he wasn’t getting the grades he needed. Having discovered about apprenticeships with PM Training and starting a new career he is now studying part-time, for a foundation degree in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering from Staffordshire University, and his future is looking bright.

He said: “Five years ago I was at St John Fisher Catholic College and I’d had enough of classrooms at that point. It just wasn’t working out for me so I dropped out."

“I wanted to get a professional qualification and the idea of earning while learning appealed to me.”

Apprenticeships give you fantastic experience in the working world. Hands-on training let's young people to put their skills into practice and gain more confidence in a working environment.

One of the major benefits of starting your career with an apprenticeships is earning whilst you learn. There are no student loans, you'll be paid by your employer and the government tends to cover the cost of the training for most young people.

Apprenticeships are a great way to earn while you learn,
I would recommend it to others.

Alex started his apprenticeship at TekData, a wiring engineering company based in Festival Park, Hanley.

From day one, he knew he had the chance to develop and progress his career and quickly aspired to learning more and started his four-year degree at Staffordshire University in 2015.

“That was one of the main reasons I wanted the position. Now I’m becoming a skilled engineer and I get along with all my colleagues, it’s a good laugh."

Sarah Tudor, Director of Employer Partnerships at Staffordshire University says: “The progression of students onto higher level qualifications and into highly-skilled jobs is a key objective for any training provider. We understand that locally Staffordshire University play a leading role in the development of higher level skills, and being connected with employers, partners, schools and the local community has led to new opportunities for students."

Alex says: “Apprenticeships are a great way to earn while you learn, I would recommend it to others. You get a good qualification behind you, and this makes sure you have a future to aim for.”
