Take Five with Multi-Skilled Apprentice Charlie

Read Charlie’s take on life as a multi-skilled apprentice. He works as an apprentice handyman maintaining charity shops for the Donna Louise Trust and Douglas Macmillan Hospice across the area. We ask him how it's going and any top tips for school leavers.

Take 1. 

When I left school I wasn't sure what to do. I didn't like the idea of going to college. I had already done a good work experience placement here at PM Training in Year 10 so it helped me to consider an apprenticeship when I left school. I came in for an Open Day which was really handy, as I got to meet the staff and have another look round. 

Take 2.

After I joined I started on the Homeworks vans and got stuck into gardening. I really enjoyed this and was delighted when I moved onto the Handyman service.  It meant I got to learn new skills and put them into practice maintaining charity shops and hospices for The Donna Louise Trust and Douglas Macmillan Hospices around the local area.

Take 3.

I've been learning skills like fitting, plumbing, general maintenance and painting and decorating. Even things like how to fit a plug socket. Which I would never have known how to do before.

Take 4. 

I'm really enjoying the work I do. It's nice to be involved in a project that supports local charities. I feel like I'm really giving something back. My supervisor, Brian, is a great mentor. He teaches me a lot and he's inspired me to stay in this type of role. 

Take 5. 

I would definitely recommend PM Training to others. It's so hands-on and all the staff are amazing and supportive.
I couldn't ask for a better supervisor to work with.
