Building a career with apprenticeships

Aimee Dove, 16, from Meir left school in the hopes finding a career through college. Here she talks to us after finding a new path through apprenticeships.

Tell us about yourself Aimee? 

Well, I went to Sandon High School and I really didn't enjoy it if i'm honest. I was never a fan of the school environment. I then went to Stoke Sixth Form and did a BTEC in Maths and Science.

Unfortunately, there was lots of homework and writing. It really wasn't for me so I left after 8 weeks. That's when I decided that I needed something more hands-on. I was told about PM Training through a careers advisor from the college which was great. I made some enquires and here I am today!

What are your career goals?

So far I have experienced painting and decorating, engineering and bricklaying. My career goal is to really get into engineering. It's something really different and I'm hoping it can lead to a high-paid, successful career.

I'm really excited what the future holds and I know I'm making a good decision being here! 

 

 

What's been your favourite thing about PM Training?

I love the staff. I'm really enjoying it. Pete has been great teaching us about bricklaying. He makes things so much better. You feel so relaxed and motivated and he never makes things boring. All the tutors are really supportive. 

Would you recommend PM Training to other school leavers? 

Definitely. I wish I had come here in the first place. You can pick skills up as you go and I have learnt so much. If you want something hands-on, which you can learn in a fun, supportive training centre then PM is definitely the best option.
