ABOUT THE APPRENTICESHIP 

This programme reinforces the knowledge, skills and behaviours that the learner will gain in the
workplace for the remaining 80% of the time.
The programme is supported by a portfolio of work carried out both on the job in the workplace, off
the job in centre with ongoing assessments both practical and theory. When the programme is
complete the learner will be eligible to undertake ACS qualification in Achieve BPEC approved
assessment centre, leading to gas safe registration for 4 work areas (i.e. Boilers water heaters
meters and G3 unvented hot water).

  • Hazard risk assessment and compliance with health and safety regulations including safe
    electrical isolation
  • Assessing pre-existing damage of customers property, protection of customers property,
    dealing with and attempting to exceed customers expectations
  • Gas safety legislation – law, codes of practice, industry standards and guidance
  • Complying with a knowledge of regulations and standards
  • Properties of natural gas and characteristics of combustion
  • Products of combustion, carbon monoxide and combustion performance analysis
  • How to deal with existing defects on an installation and following the unsafe situations
    procedure
  • Carrying out the installation of pipework
  • Emergency control valves – checking and setting a meter regulator and emergency actions
    and procedures
  • Tightness testing, gas escapes and purging
  • The construction and checking of flues, chimneys and ventilation gas appliances
  • Appliances installation and commissioning including gas safety devices and controls, gas
    rating and heat input, filling in required paperwork and commissioning results
  •  Servicing and maintenance of a variety of gas appliances
